Denis Hughes

Congratulations to Denis Hughes for having life membership of the New Zealand Rhododendron Association Conference at their 2010 conference in Wanaka.

His citation reads

Denis Hughes joined the NZRA and was a council member 1988 – 1997; he was also convenor of the very successful NZRA Invercargill Conference in 1993.

Whilst Denis is a behind-the-scenes worker, admired and respected by NZRA members, his activities have always been focused on the cultivation, study and improvement of genus, and he has willingly shared his knowledge and expertise with fellow enthusiasts.

During his three terms on Council, his wise council was invaluable at a time when council faced many challenges. He supported the NZRA with donations of plants for the association's conferences and national garden for many years. His plant hunting activities in China and Tasmania have also benefited members with new plants.
